Bamboo Matcha Whisks are handcrafted traditional Japanese chasen designed to transform matcha powder into a smooth, frothy bowl of tea. Made from a single piece of natural bamboo, each whisk features finely carved tines that effortlessly break up clumps and incorporate air, creating the silky texture and delicate foam that define authentic matcha preparation.

For centuries, bamboo whisks have been the preferred tool for preparing matcha because their flexible tines are specifically designed to suspend the finely ground tea powder evenly in water. Unlike metal whisks or spoons, a bamboo chasen creates a smoother consistency while preserving the rich flavor and vibrant character of premium matcha.

How to use Matcha Whisks

PRO TIP: Soak your bamboo whisks before use

Before making your cup of matcha, soak the whisk in warm water. This will soften the tines which will help you achieve that perfect green froth you love so much.

  1. Sift 1-2 tsp matcha into a cup
  2. Add 2oz hot water (water just under a boil will achieve the best results)
  3. Whisk your matcha in a quick "W" or "M" motion until a layer of fine foam develops across the surface.
  4. Enjoy your matcha tea straight from the bowl.

Each Tealeavz Bamboo Matcha Whisk is carefully crafted to provide the control needed for traditional matcha preparation.

Whether you're preparing ceremonial matcha, a morning matcha latte, or your favorite flavored matcha blend, a traditional bamboo whisk makes a noticeable difference in texture, creating a smoother, creamier cup with fewer clumps and a more enjoyable drinking experience.

How to clean Matcha Whisks

Whisking is the key to making the perfect cup of green tea matcha. But to make sure your whisk is ready to whip into action, you need to take care of it properly. Care is all part of the tradition for the true matcha lover who's interested in making a smooth, clump-free cup with a nice froth on top.

Here are four simple rules (plus a bonus tip) to care for your matcha whisk:

Rule 1: Always wash after use

Wash your matcha whisk thoroughly and immediately after each use. Why? Made of natural bamboo, traditional bamboo whisks (also called a “chasen”) can be susceptible to mold growth if left moist for too long.

Rinse your whisk by running hot water through all the tines (or prongs). Make sure that there isn't any matcha left on the tines. Do not use soap and definitely never put it in the dishwasher.

Rule 2: Air dry

Simply let your whisk air dry. Ensure you always place your whisk with the tines pointing down so any water drops can drain out, and not be trapped at the handle.

Rule 3: Store matcha whisks properly

After waiting until it is completely dried, it is safe to store. Now you'll do the opposite from the drying, and remember to keep it upright so it is not sitting on the tines.

For the best protection of your matcha whisk, store it on a matcha whisk holder (also known as a celadon) to protect the shape and integrity of the tines.

If you follow these simple steps, your matcha whisk can last one or two years depending on the frequency of use. If you notice the tines beginning to break or lose their shape, it's time to replace your whisk.
